Movie Theaters May Ask to Jam Cell Phones

Movie Theaters May Ask to Jam Cell Phones
March 15, 2006
LAS VEGAS -- Movie theater owners faced with falling attendance are considering asking federal authorities for permission to jam cell phone reception in an attempt to stop annoying conversations during films, the head of the industry's trade group said on Tuesday.

Industry leaders at the ShoWest conference for theater owners want to find ways to win back crowds.

"I don't know what's going on with consumers that they have to talk on phones in the middle of theaters," John Fithian, president of the National Association of Theater Owners, told the ShoWest conference in Las Vegas.

Theaters are trying a number of ways to silence cell phones, from sweeps by ushers to funny fake movie trailers urging viewers to shut off phones.

Fithian said owners were considering other steps if that does not work.

"We will actually petition the Federal Communications (Commission) to remove the block" on jamming cell phones, he said.

That may be difficult, since federal law and FCC rules prohibit the use of cell phone jammers.

The industry is broadly trying to increase interest in the movies.

Motion Picture Association of America Chief Executive Dan Glickman told ShoWest that the industry is researching why and when people go to the movies and might consider an advertising campaign to encourage people to go out to the movies, just as the milk industry has succeeded with its Got Milk? campaign.

Yippee-Ki-Yay, Motherfucker

Just saw the midnight showing of Live Free Or Die Hard.

That movie kicked ass. Two small gripes. There were a couple of small parts where the audio and video were edited badly. I could catch it easily, others might not. But this was damn sure Die Hard movie no question about it. John McClane was back in action 100%. And so was his daughter. You will know without a doubt Lucy McClane his his daughter.

It was a really good movie. I was throughly happy with it. Got home and took a motrin. Headache. But it was so worth it.

And yes he did say the magic words right as he shot the gun.

Interesting thing. All those movies that show scene or dialog that are not in the movie. Tends to annoy me a lot. They did it for a few things in this movie also. But I still loved it. That is how good this movie was. Loved it.

Was it better then the first or second or third? Who the fuck cares? I won't even answer that.

RISE

Well I watched Fantastic Four Rise Of The Silver Surfer.

I was disappointed by it. It was my own fault and I should have knew better. I spoiled myself big time. I watched the clips and TV spot before hand and that often causes me to be disappointed by the movies.

The plot was fine. I liked the power switching. But my favorite part from the first one was missing in this movie.

Johnny (John, makes him sound more mature) Storm aka THE HUMAN TORCH!

Now he was there. But not exactly. Now what I mean by that is his personality. Early on in the movie was was perfect and I was loving the movie. Then The Silver Surfer got to him. Now Johnny reacted normally. But he lost his confidence and started to feel down on himself. Thus it was a different version of Johnny. It disappointed me.

The character writing however. It was not only spot on but I truly believe they no other comic book movie has had all the characters written in character better.

Damn sure not that horrid excuse of a trilogy (Currently) they call Spider-Man.

Johnny was his same old self, only ramped up majorly compared to what he is in the comics and cartoons.

Sue was done just fine.

Ben was still fine.

Reed was still his correct boring always thinking science flat card board self.

They all seemed to have equal screen time.

Now the bad things that literally took me out of the movie going experience.

Jessica Alba's look. All you have to do it look at her in this movie and you will know exactly what I mean. Her hair was changed her eyes were fake. She just looked like a badly done Barbie doll. Every time I saw her I was just thinking "What the hell"

Laurence Fishburne voicing the Silver Surfer.

That was some of the worse casting I had seen in a long time. It was way too deep. he simply should have not been the cast. Shame on you Tim Story, now I am starting to wonder if Fantastic Four 3 is going to end up being a BET special.

Now what I mean by that is this.

Director Tim Story is black.

Alicia Masters was white in the comics and now she is black. I'm fine with it.

Laurence Fishburne is black as well and was just horrible casting. Surfer should not have had a deep voice.

But then when Surfer was taken off his board. His color changed. Why it changed I really don't know. But it did. And the color changed to a real black smoky color.

That just bothered me and once again took me out of the story. If he should have changed at all he should have changed back to his human self. he just looked so fake when his color changed and he was separated from his board.

Now I will end this review with something I didn't have a problem with.

Galactus. You get to interpret your own way. I didn't find him to be the cloud. I found him to be in the cloud. If you looked in the firey, brimstone, smokey, cloud you could see a shadow of what looked like the classic outline of Galactus.

All in all. I didn't hate the movie, I didn't dislike it. But I expected a lot more.

Best movie of the year so far...

Heroic Gamer Takes A Bullet

Source Kotaku

Seeing how the mainstream press reacts when someone who might have played Counter-Strike pulls a gun on somebody, how would they react when one takes a bullet trying to stop a crime?

This past Sunday twenty-four year old Adam Mapleson rushed to the aid of a female security guard outside a railway station in Essex England, who was being robbed at gunpoint by two mask-wearing thugs, taking a bullet to the chest in the process. Now in stable condition at a local hospital, police are calling the young man a hero.

Combine his passion for black metal music with the gaming favorites (Half-Life 2, Counter-Strike, GTA) found on his MySpace (courtesy of GamePolitics) and you've got a school shooting waiting to happen according to some people I could mention, and here he is trying to save the day.

Of course one could argue that playing computer games might have dulled that little voice in his head that would normally tell him to sit his happy ass down and not rush men with guns while unarmed, but taking a page from anti-gaming press coverage of the past I'll ignore that possibility and simply add, "Go team!"

Forgot

I watched 28 Weeks Later.

I loved it. I wasn't sure walking into it with a run time of about 91 minutes according to Fandago and my local theater. But I really did enjoy it. I think it was better then the first one. I'm looking forward to 28 Months Later also (Yes it really is happening).

Apparently there is some controversy and outrage over a certain image. It's the one below.

Some people are really pissed about it. I in turn think I am going to buy it now just to piss those people off. It's pricey ($125), but I do like it for obvious reasons. I never planned on buying it but it is a really nice sculpt. I don't know if I am going to buy it but as I said, maybe I will in hopes of pissing a lot of whiny people off. More angles of it can be found here.

Now I guess people complain that women are treated as sex or.....I really don't know why people bitch about the way women are handled in comics. There are two things that separate the way women are shown in comics from the way that men are. Boobs and sometimes they wear less clothing. Those are the only differences. Women are not typically shown in a weak manner anymore. They puts them on equal footing with the men in that area. Yes their clothes can get skimpy, but so can the guys. Yes they are shown with perfect bodies and big boobs. And you know what/ The guys are shown with perfect bodies also. I mean Professor X manages to have six pack abs when he has spent the better part of his life in a wheel chair. Women are not treated any different from the guys in comics or most mediums in today's world.

Maybe I have missed the point though on why people complain about the way they are shown in comics. If I have then feel free to tell me and I will tell you exactly how they are shown no different then guys. Equal rights people. You get it in every form not just the ways that work best for you.

This statue has a good chance of being purchased also.

Jane Pulls Out of The Punisher 2

Jane Pulls Out of The Punisher 2

Ain't It Cool News received a note from Thomas Jane which says that the actor has pulled out of Lionsgate's The Punisher 2. Here's a bit from the letter:

What I won't do is spend months of my life sweating over a movie that I just don't believe in. I've always loved the Marvel guys, and wish them well. Meanwhile, I'll continue to search for a film that one day might stand with all those films that the fans have asked me to watch.

Click the link above to read Jane's complete note.

This makes me sad. I find The Punisher to be one of Marvel's finest movies. And for Tom Jane to leave the movie.....damn it. That sucks. If the sequel ever does get made I still plan on seeing it even without him in it. But damn it that sucks. Tom Jane was damn good in that movie. Just maybe Lions Gate will get their act together and start this film up and maybe do something to convince him to return. But as it stands Tom Jane will not be in Punisher 2. :(
